The Buttermarket, also known as the Market House, dates back to the 18th century and is a significant part of Harrold’s architectural heritage. Standing alongside it is the circular Lock-Up, a small prison built in 1824, which was once used to detain offenders overnight or hold them before trial. The Lock-Up also gained local fame in 1967 when Georgie Knight voluntarily spent two days inside as part of a wager.
